CREATIVE WRITING PORTFOLIO

Please click here.

In addition to regular attendance and class participation, 20% of your final mark will be derived from a creative portfolio consisting of your own attempts at some or all of the following:

  • a Renaissance-style sonnet;
  • a Pope-style poetic 'essay' or philosophical poem;
  • a short poem written in the style of Blake;
  • a sonnet written in the style of Wordsworth;
  • a brief excerpt from an epic written in the style of Wordsworth;
  • odes written in the different styles of Wordsworth, Coleridge (the so-called 'conversation poems'), Shelley and Keats.

(We may add to or subtract from the list as we proceed and as other relevant genres and activities suggest themselves.)

We shall use the tutorial hour (10-11 on Wednesdays) to share with each other our attempts at these various kinds of poetry.

To this end, students should send me soft copies of their poems before the relevant tutorial so that I can post them for everyone to read as a basis for tutorial discussion.
